CAT 2025 (for 2026 batch admissions) is typically held in November 2025. Ideal preparation timeline: Start in January–February 2025 — 10 months of preparation. GD (Group Discussion) is a 20–30 minute group exercise where 10–12 candidates discuss a given topic — business, current affairs, or abstract. Evaluators assess communication, leadership, critical thinking, and teamwork. PI (Personal Interview) is a 15–30 minute one-on-one or panel interview assessing academic background, work experience, career goals, and fit with the programme. Work experience is NOT mandatory for most Indian MBA programmes, including regular 2-year MBA at IIMs, XLRI, MDI, and private B-schools. Fresh graduates (0 years experience) are admitted alongside experienced candidates. However, work experience does carry weightage in IIM composite scores — typically 2–5 points for 12–36 months of work experience. For Executive MBA (EMBA) and 1-year PGPX programmes (IIM A/B/C), 5–10 years of work experience is mandatory.
